Sikkim Philatelic Society participates at SILIPEX-2014

Sikkim Philatelic Society (SPS) participated at the two day Philatelic Exhibition "SILIPEX-2014" held at Dinabandhu Mancha (Tathya Kendra) Siliguri on 10th and 11th February 2014. The exhibition was organised by India Post North Bengal & Sikkim Region with the help of Siliguri Philatelists Society. Ganesh Pradhan (President, SPS), Shital Pradhan (General Secretary, SPS), Deepen Pradhan (Joint Secretary) and Roshan Prasad (Treasurer, SPS) had participated in an invitee category while Sristikaa Pradhan stood third at student level competition. The philatelic exhibition SILIPEX-2014 was inaugurated by Sri Goutam Deb, Minister for North Bengal Development . The highlight of the two day exhibition was the release of a booklet on Sachin Tendulkar. 52 frames are exhibited during the event that had 12 invitee classes. Sri Uday Mani Pradhan, noted Philatelist from Darjeeling and Sri Surja Kanta Biswas from Berhampore were the judges of the Exhibition.

Changu Lake stamp and Sikkim Philately Very little is known about the postal history of Sikkim. Though post offices in Sikkim started in 1888 in Dulapchin (now Dalapchand), near Rongli and meager information has been established so far. The following article is in no reference to the postal history of Sikkim but tries to recapture the honour received by Sikkim when Indian Postage issued a postal stamp on Changu Lake. Sikkim Philatelic Club wants to express gratitude towards the Indian Postal Department for their generous effort on honouring a place for Changu Lake in world philately. This article recollects the account of Philately in Sikkim over the years. For a stamp sized state of Sikkim, 6 th November 2006 hold a moment of glory and recognisation in terms of world philately.
